In its 41st year, South Texas’s largest music, culture and
heritage festival “BorderFest” will celebrate the U.S.A. Each year, the
festival has paid homage to a different country, bringing a bit of its
culture and history to the Rio Grande Valley. In light of the current
political climate, organizers decided to celebrate our own country,
highlighting the things that make us all proud to be American.
As such, there will be a 45’ replica of the Statue of Liberty in the center
of Liberty Square, where there will also be informative displays of
American icons, as well as the KGBT CBS 4 USA Stage, with live
performances by an Elvis impersonator, Native American dance tribes,
a 16 piece brass swing bad, zydeco music and more! There will be a
Sea Lion Splash Show, a White Tiger Discovery, an interactive Kidz
Science Lab, a motorcycle stunt show, a petting zoo–It’s three days of
music, food, and family fun!
Discover a culture of people that revel in unique cuisine, language, arts and crafts, musical heritage and entertainment. BorderFest showcases the diversity of cultures in South Texas, highlighting the rich history and vibrant customs of local peoples. Thousands of volunteers, local residents and international visitors come to the Rio Grande Valley to experience the ultimate celebration of community.
This community-wide event is held every year on the first weekend of March and staged by the City of Hidalgo. It has progressively molded into a global event celebrating a different country each year where guests have the opportunity to explore various forms of educational entertainment and exhibits.
